Happens right after selecting the installation. Didn't have this problem with the previous beta. My own experience Mac os Weirdest damn thing, I thought it was a joke when someone on irc said to try moving the mouse I have the exact same problems mentioned above on Mac OS X GUI haven't tried cli but a workaround I've found for slow download speeds is to download the mod in cache first then install them, though you don't see the speed it is downloading.
You can create an alias in your terminal that include the short locale change but I do not think it is possible to fix within CKAN from the user side. I look forward to tracking this thread for additional troubleshooting techniques.
Thank you! Just adding my voice to the slow download on OSX. Can this be closed now? This issue still appears to be present. If I switch away from CKAN the problem becomes much worse, with downloads completely grinding to a halt.
Are downloads performed from the main thread? Downloads are handed off to individual tasks and run simultaneously. Net implementation just how any threading is handled. I'm not so sure of that. My understanding is that Github has some shaping it does when you do a lot of simultaneous downloads, so if you're getting a lot of Github hosted mods, it can have issues.
Selecting a smaller number of mods is the only way we know to fix it. That isn't the issue. It occurs regardless of the number of downloads — even if there is just one.
That also wouldn't explain why downloads stall when switching to another application. Can you try saving your mod collection as a favourites list, cloning a fresh KSP directory with no CKAN folder and no mods installed, then add the new install and attempt to load the favourites.
Same behavior. If I hide the application the download speed drops to 0, then usually picks back up when I bring the application back to the foreground. Installing the same set of mods from the command line, it initially peaks around kbps, then very gradually drops to around kbps just before finishing.
The fact that multiple downloads will slow down can probably be explained by the fact that there are fewer active connections as downloads complete.
But the massive difference in performance, plus the fact that the GUI stalls when the app isn't in the foreground implies that there's something else going on. Ok, so it's being triggered by something in your computer environment outside CKAN because otherwise everyone would be experiencing it, which they aren't.
Can I ask what your Internet connection is, and what results you get from a Speedtest? The Curlsharp bug report I made was indeed when I was working on getting curl integration happening.
I thought this was only an OSX bug, but I'm curious if we're seeing it elsewhere. I've just checked, and it looks like both the cmdline and GUI use the NetAsyncModulesDownloader class, and an important part of that is:.
I would offer to make a test build right now, but it's 3am and I'm about to pass out shortly. Testing seems to work fine on Linux. I downloaded successfully from archive. I dont want to rebuild this box, but i am close to trying that just to try and fix it. The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:. Sorry, something went wrong. What CKAN version do you use?
Also, please try to presse the "Refresh" button. I have tried the refresh button, nothing. CKAN version v1. For mono 3. Try mono ckan. That'll give us some idea where it's getting to or --debug instead of --verbose if you want oodles of information. The DogeCoinnFlag mod is just a single flag file, so it's about the simplest thing we can get for debugging purposes.
Also, the aforementioned slow startup it's been awhile since I've used CKAN, but I've never seen this kind of sluggishness before - and this is on a Threadripper with oodles of RAM and SSD capacity, so I can't think of any hardware-related reason why it'd be this slow. The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:. Looks like the command-line approach has the same issue with downloading but at least it's quicker to start up :.
I should also note that my Internet connection is working fine I'm writing this comment from the same machine experiencing the issue, and said machine can also access SpaceDock and that other site perfectly fine via a browser. Sorry, something went wrong. Make sure your mono install is complete and up to date. Upgraded to the latest Mono 5. CKAN starts up a lot quicker now, but now I'm getting a new error when downloading:. Kinda wish it would tell me what exception occurred.
Is there a "verbose" mode or something like that so I can get stack traces or something? EDIT: there is indeed a --verbose flag, apparently. Verbose output of that full procedure below:. Yeah, the annoying "An exception" thing is addressed in Still looks like a Mono install problem. You're getting a null reference exception inside some Mono library constructor. Uninstall mods? Update mods? Which mods? What exact steps did you take?
Explain it step-by-step, which buttons you clicked and for which mods. Can you still reproduce the problem? If yes, can you reproduce it with other mods, or only with certain mods? What did you expect to happen after taking these steps? What do you think CKAN should've done? What actually happened? On Mon. Well I didn't do much but those are the steps I took to attempt a fix as you can tell it worked.
As mentioned in steps above my last response But at some point it started actually adding mods to the gamedata folder. After yesterday I had added another 2 mods and no problem but it was slow?
My thinking is when I hit 42 mods ckan must've had something weird happen like How it didnt even Uninstall or install any mod Or not throwing an error.
